Wedding Cake Checklist 

When ordering a wedding cake from a bakery, ask to see pictures of their latest creations. White cakes are traditional, however today, there are many choices of themes, colors, flavors, fillings and icings. Be clear about the date of the wedding, location, deadlines, etc.

Top the cake with something that will reflect a theme that is special to you; perhaps a hobby, occupation or special interests. Some choose to use the same topping saved from their parent's wedding cake.

Spotlight the wedding cake at the reception on a separate table covered with a white tablecloth and decorated with your favorite flowers and greens.

Here are a few things to remember:

• Select your bakery 3 to 6 months in advance
• Choose shape, size, theme, flavor, filling, icing, and decorative toppings for the wedding cake
• Order the Groom's cake
• Provide the bakery with complete delivery information, e.g., date, time and map of location.
• Pay deposit
• Purchase cake knife and server
• Decorate cake knife and server
• Purchase or borrow a cake topper
• Assign someone to be responsible for getting the cake knife, server and cake topper to the bakery or reception site
• Determine who will be cutting the cake at the reception
• Pay the balance
• Arrange for someone to take the top of the cake home after the reception and preserve it for you
• Assign someone to return cake stands and pillars to the bakery
