Personal Promises

This is the part of the ceremony where the Bride and Groom write something special to say to each other during the wedding ceremony. I call this part, "Personal Promises."

This can be a very special part of your wedding ceremony. I highly recommend that you select this option because it is a very special part of the ceremony that the guests truly enjoy. They know that when I hand you the cards to read, that it is something that you wrote to each other, not something the minister told you to say.

Some couples are reluctant to commit to this part of the ceremony and that is their option. Here are a few suggestions to help.

Be sure what you say is from the heart. Spend some time alone jotting down a few thoughts that you would like to say to your partner. They can be something romantic or you may want to personalize them with a little humor, however it's best to always end with something romantic.

If the words don't come, get creative. Go to a Hallmark card store and take a look at some of those tall, slim, romantic cards. You are sure to find one or maybe two that express the love you have for your partner. Buy the card and either use the words to get your mind going in the right direction or simply use the words in the card. You may want to add a few of your own.

Do a Google.com search for "romantic readings" to get some ideas.

Always write what you are going to say on an index card. NEVER try to memorize waht you will say. (That should take some of the pressure off). If you are a little nervous - and that is very normal - you may go blank and mess up this part of the ceremony.

A Groom at one of my weddings insisted on saying everything by memory. He did a terrific job. I went to him at the reception and congratulated him, however he told me that he forgot the main part he really wanted to say. I suggested that when he got the microphone to thank everyone for coming that he turn to his Bride and say what he forgot. The Bride never knew that he forgot.

It is a good idea not to tell your partner what you will be saying. Let it be a nice surprise.

Give the cards to the minister at the rehearsal and during the ceremony he will hand them to you to read.
